Sunshine Coast Electricity Prices | Make The Switch to Solar

Sunshine Coast Electricity Prices are on the rise with the rest of Australia. We are all awaiting a magical plummet to the ground with the Abbott-led government, but its doubtful that it will ever actually happen. If it does, great but don’t get too used to it as it could be quite a short lived endeavour.

When considering sunshine coast electricity prices its important to understand why the electricity prices are driven so high in the first place. Things must be taken into consideration like retail costs, carbon tax, green-schemes, wholesale costs, network charges.

Solar Power Benefits Australian Households.

With the costs of green energy falling, prices for fossil fuel alternatives are on a fast track to re-shaping the electricity markets throughout Australia.

As solar power takes flight, almost one million Australian homes have invested in solar pv systems, or solar energy of some description.  Recent studies have shown that approximately 1 gigawatt of solar power has been installed on Australian roof-tops in the last year and the Australian Solar Council states that this has increased the pre-existing capacity by more than two thirds.

Queensland Power Prices to rise by $268!

Queensland Power Prices, On The Rise Again

Today marked yet another unnecessary rise in Queenaland power prices. An additional $268 per year will send average power bills from $1184 per year to $1451 after Today (July 1) A 22.5% increase.

Queensland Power Prices charge just to access power will rise today from 26.17c per day to 59.22c per day. A total increase of 126.2%!

The QCA blamed the price rises on the government electricity freeze, the previous Queensland Government’s solar bonus scheme which has added some cost to the network and large increases in revenue allowed by the national power regulator. The changes to an individual’s bill will depend on their tariff and consumption. Treasurer Tim Nicholls said the decision was a further blow for consumers but the QCA had limited room to move, with more than 70 per cent of the price increase determined by network costs and green schemes locked in three years ago.

The State Government has announced a proposal to merge Energex and Ergon Energy, scrap uniform electricity tariffs and end reliability standards.

Apparently the government says the move is aimed at reforming Queensland’s electricity sector but cannot yet guarantee that it will lower any power bills.

Unions say it will mean job losses and an unreliable supply which could cause higher power costs in more regional areas of Queensland. Minister of Energy, Mark McArdle says that the State Government is determined to drive down power prices. However, Annastacia Palaszczuk stated her suspiciousness over a secret plan to privatise the  Electricity Sector.
